Jenny Hayward

Materiality is central to the process. Through layering, erasure, and translucency, painting becomes a responsive and embodied act shaped by visual memory. The resulting surfaces resonate between observation and imagination, recognition and abstraction.

They contain the energy of the unknown and the remembered both tangible and slightly out of reach.

My work explores the encounter between body, landscape and time. I'm interested in the vibrancy of matter and the resonance that draws us in to relationship with objects and places just as it does with people.

Rooted in daily observation of the landscape, my practice is inspired by the physical ‘bodies’ of nature — resonant, sensuous, relational — and by the contrast of light and shadow, stillness and energy, empty space and form.
